In fact, Glen Rock's history is intimately connected to its excellent schools. On September 14, 1894 the township became an independent borough in response to a decision by the governing body of Ridgewood to replace all local rural schools with a new, centrally located school.  Glen Rock's town leaders made a decision to incorporate in order to educate the area's children within the borders of Glen Rock.

Commuters appreciate Glen Rock's convenience to Manhattan by car, bus or train.  It is one of the few communities served by both the Bergen and Main Line trains.
